Woodland Park, Colo.-based Configuresoft Inc. last month announced the release of its Enterprise Configuration Manager (ECM) 3.5, which the company said provides proactive security management and alerting to prevent configuration-related breaches on Windows NT/2000 systems. The product collects and provides enterprise views on security-related configuration data from various systems connected to the network. ECM 3.5 also now provides a Web console to monitor configuration settings using a standard browser. ECM 3.5 is available now, and pricing begins at US$775 per server and US$30 per workstation. Lucent Technologies Inc. revealed its commitment to multilayer storage technology with the formation of a new company called InPhase Technologies last month. InPhase Technologies will continue development of Lucent’s holographic storage technology. Instead of recording data on the surface of a disk, the technology will enable the recording of data through the entire thickness of the storage medium, which should allow for greater storage capacity, officials said. Developed by Lucent’s research arm, Bell Laboratories, the technology also stores data in what officials called page format, which can be accessed one million bits at a time for faster data retrieval. Network Storage Solutions (NSS) in Chantilly, Va., last month announced the launch of its ProStar family of network attached storage (NAS) servers. The ProStar family supports up to 4GB of ECC SDRAM memory, dual load-sharing hot swap power supplies and scalable disk capacities, according to the company. The family of products offer the processing speed and sizable caching of a high-end system at a lower cost, the company said, making it ideal for small- and medium-sized businesses, entry-level ISPs and any other organization that requires fast access to large amounts of data.
