Belden buys Trapeze Networks for US$133 million

Richmond, Indiana-based Belden Inc. is hoping to address the enterprise market with wireless solutions from recently acquired enterprise wireless technology vendor Trapeze Networks.

Belden, a vendor of signal transmission technology, bought the privately-held Pleasanton, Calif.-based company for US$133 million. Trapeze Networks offers a product portfolio of WLAN systems built on scalable wireless operating system running on the company’s access points and controllers.

Given that mobility, in particular, he said, is a requirement among Belden’s enterprise customers, the buy “uniquely positions Belden to address the enterprise market with a full complement of signal transmission solutions,” said Belden’s president and CEO John Stroup.

Trapeze Networks’ president, Jim Vogt, said the company looks “forward to expanding our customer relationships by working with the worldwide Belden sales and marketing organization.”

Trapeze Networks had revenues of US$56 million in 2007, catering to healthcare, education, manufacturing, retail, government and other verticals. Belden’s 2007 revenue was US$2.0 billion.
