Toronto-based internet operator Beanfield Metroconnect is expanding its service scope to the west coast with the acquisition of Urbanfibre on July 28.
Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Urbanfibre has a 30-year history of providing internet services to multi-story residential and commercial buildings, serving customers in both the public and private sectors. Its dedicated fibre optics network spans the city of Vancouver and naturally complements Beanfield’s business.
Beanfield operates its wholly-owned fibre optics networks in Toronto and Montreal. The company noted in its press release that it now serves more than 3,000 commercial and residential buildings.

“By joining forces, we’ll be able to build on our rich histories and expand our offerings,” said Jon Paul Janze, chief executive officer of Urbanfibre in the press release. “This will ensure true competition and network resiliency is available across the Greater Vancouver Area.”
For the time being, Urbanfibre will continue to operate under its original brand and customers will not see any changes to their plans or pricing on the existing network.
The financial details of the deal remain undisclosed.
