Avaya demos one-X mobile telecom apps

Avaya Inc. is shipping add-ons for its Aura telecommunications product, which is comprised of unified messaging and call control software loaded on to a Linux server.

Amir Hameed, director of national solutions specialists for Avaya Canada, recently demonstrated three of the Aura one-X products, which are designed to make it easier to reach workers outside the office.

Aura one-X Mobile lets companies route calls through Avaya Communications Manager to wireless devices such as Research in Motion Inc.’s BlackBerry, Apple Inc.’s iPhone and devices running Symbian, Windows Mobile and Palm operating systems. One-X Communicator is a soft phone designed for desktop PCs that can let home workers act as call centre agents and allow users to initiate video conferences.

Hameed showed us how you can reach colleagues on their wireless phones by dialing their office extensions, listen to your emails through text-to-speech and navigate through web pages on wireless devices using voice commands.
