Your Oct. 6, 2000 edition, page 12 article, “A study of the masses” reports on an experiment in finding content on Web sites. It included the paragraph: “Intuition would tell us young or experienced users would be able to complete more tasks than older or inexperienced people…”
This isn’t “intuition,” it’s discrimination based on age.
The article continues, “…but the reality was that young and middle-aged fared
no better…” The writer concludes the surprising finding with “The question is why, and the answer is simple – no one really knows…”
How puzzling – no one knows why age discrimination isn’t confirmed by experiment.
The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms makes it clear that every individual – regardless of race, religion, national or ethnic origin, colour, sex, age or physical or mental disability – is to be considered equal.
Please remind your writer that with any luck, eventually he or she will be older, too.
