Alberta gets new system for pensions administration

IBM Systems Ltd. and CPAS Systems Inc. have come together with the Alberta Pensions Administration Corporation (APA) to implement software used to administer pension plans.

APEX, a system that will allow for online administration of the plans, will improve service delivery to clients, and result in both a higher ease-of-use for APA employees, and faster turnaround on pension calculation.

APA Corporation and IBM’s Business Consulting Services using tools from CPAS, a supplier of retirement systems technology, jointly implemented the new system that will facilitate the expansion of APA’s product and service offerings.

The implementation accounted for the most complex components of APA Corporations pension administration business, which resulted in extensive planning testing and customization of the software to ensure a smooth transition to the new system.

The public sector pension plan and the management employee pension plan -supporting 45,000 members in total – were selected as the primary users of this new software.

The new pension plans are currently online, and plans to bring the remaining plans onto the new platform and deploy advanced Web access services, are in the works. The APA can be found online at www.apaco.ab.ca.
