Salesforce consolidates authentication, app access

Salesforce.com has released a cloud-based application which aims to help IT administrators consolidate user authentication and application access control into a single solution.

Salesforce Identity is available to customers with Enterprise and Unlimited Enterprise licences for several vendor products including Sales Cloud, Service Cloud and Salesforce Communities as well as user of the Force.com platform as a service.

Salesforce Identity costs US$5 per month.

The tool will enable IT administrators to manage app for employees, customers and partners and simply provisioning and managing mobile, cloud and on-premise applications.

Identity provides administrators with directory service, user profile management, usage reports, dashboards and multi-factor authentication. Users get a single sign-on. It supports identity standards such as Security Assertion Markup Language (SML), OAuth, OpenID Connect and System for Cross-domain identity Management (SCIM).
