How To Fix Trend Micro Antivirus That Modifies Windows Registry By Mistake

Trend Micro has fixed a technical issue causing Microsoft Edge updates to be marked as malware and the Windows registry to be incorrectly modified.

According to customer reports, the false positive issue affecting update packages are stored in the Microsoft Edge installation folder.

To address the issue, the cybersecurity software maker urged customers to update their products and ensure that Smart Scan Agent Pattern and Smart Scan Pattern are updated to the latest version.

While the fix was able to fix the false positive issue, some customers reported that it caused yet another problem: The fix caused Windows registry entries to be changed after the agent’s Damage Cleanup tool was executed.

Affected users are advised to restore the backups performed by the Apex One Agent via a procedure that helps reverse the changes made by Damage Cleanup.

Trend Micro also provided a script that will help administrators automate the registry restoration procedure. This can be done using group policies or other enterprise scripting tools.
