Increased demand and rising expectations from citizens are challenging governments and public sector agencies to deliver quality solutions at speed. Many have opted for custom solutions that cost millions, but end up solving only a very specific set of problems.

In August 2014 when the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) took over responsibility for regulating reclamation and remediation activities for energy resource activities in Alberta, it inherited a backlog of almost 2,700 applications.

Working with partners, including OpenText, the agency developed a nimble, low-code solution, ONESTOP, that integrated systems, streamlined the application review process, eliminated the backlog and may have created the secure, flexible and easy-to- use e-government platform long sought by the public sector.
