Yahoo! names new CEO

Former Autodesk CEO and chairperson Carol Bartz is taking over as CEO of Yahoo! after co-founder Jerry Yang stepped down two months ago, according to the Globe and Mail.

Yang rebuffed Microsoft's advances (and a $47.5 billion offer), and, on the day of Bartz's appointment, Yahoo! shares dropped by 27 cents.

Bartz was chosen over CEO candidate Susan Decker, the current president of Yahoo!. She was Autodesk CEO between 1992 and 2006, and chairperson after that.

Fun facts:

1) According to the Globe story, Bartz “talks like a sailor,” and, at Autodesk, would start the days with “profanity-laced phonecalls demanding to know why a sale hadn't been closed.”

2) She also isn't averse to cleaning shop: she canned most of Autodesk's management within six months of taking over.

3) Bartz isused to adversity: even after being CEO for many years, she was still often mistaken for an administrative assistant by other (male) CEOs.
