Aussie call centre employee Kyle Doyle called in sick one day back in August. He was surprised to receive from his employer a request for a doctor’s certificate confirming his illness. Doyle told his HR person that leave for medical purposes couldn’t be denied by a line manager on a whim.
HR countered with a screen shot of Doyle’s Facebook page, wherein his status read: “Kyle Doyle is not going to work, f— it i’m still trashed. SICKIE WOO!”
Busted.
What can we learn from Mr. Doyle’s misadventure? A) If still, ahem, “trashed” in the morning, one should stay away from the keyboard — a corollary to the old “don’t drink and dial” rule; and 2) Facebook is a legit corporate application, so stop bothering me about how much time I spend on it.
