Given the fascination the younger folk have with texting, and theirseemingly insatiable appetite for SMS communication, it was bound tohappen sooner or later.

The Web site of WCBS-TV in New York reports a 15-year-old fell five feet down an open sewer grate while walking and texting on Staten Island.

NYC Department of Environmental Protection workers were apparentlyflushing the sewer and left the manhole cover off, unattended andunmarked by pylons or tape.

Alexa Longueira admits she was texting at the time, but told CBS:“Regardless of whether I’m texting or not if there was a cone there I’mgoing to see a big orange cone.”

Longueira suffered deep cuts and bruises and is considering suing the City. She also lost a shoe in the incident.

She doesn’t want it back.
