Toshiba unveils nine laptops

Toshiba of Canada’s information systems group has announced nine notebook PCs, four of which have fingerprint readers.

The vendor yesterday announced four Tecra A10 models, which includeshock absorbing capabilities for the hard drive, spill resistantkeyboards, fingerprint readers, microphones, web cameras and businesscard readers.

“This is totally the mobile professional,” said Michelle Warren,president of MW Research and Consulting, based in Toronto. “They’regoing head to head against Lenovo and Thinkpad with the spillresistance.”

The Tecra A-10-OOR includes a 2.4 GHz Intel Centrino 2 processor and250 GB hard drive, while the Tecra A10-00S has a 2.26 GHz IntelCentrino 2 processor with a 200 GB drives. Both cost $1,449 and have15.4-inch displays. Two other Tecra models, the A10-00Q and M10-OON,cost $1,349 and have 15.4-inch and 14.1-inch screens respectively.

Warren said the Tecra notebooks should appeal to workers such asaccountants, insurance workers and financial advisors who do much oftheir work while on the road.

Toshiba also announced four Satellite Pro A300 laptops with15.4-inch screens and high-definition sound. The least expensive, at$879, is the MK3, which has a 2.0 GHz AMD Turion Dual Core RM-70processor with a 160 GB hard drive.

The other two laptops announced were 17.1 inch Satellite Pro P300s.
