Tech Data Canada hosts its largest TechSelect conference

You have to hand it to Tech Data Canada for fostering collaboration in the partner community.

I have spend just a day here so far at the TechSelect conference inVancouver and I am amazed at how seamless the collaboration is betweenchannel partners along with partners with vendors. All this has beenorchestrated by Tech Data, whose core competency is pick, pack and shipIT products.

This conference is further proof that Tech Data has done a great jobof dispelling the myth that broadline distributors don’t add value.

Let me give you one example of collaboration. Glenn Mowat, president of Unis Lumin,is at this show and was encouraged to talk about its Thinworx offeringto the membership. For some background, Thinworx is a cost effectiveserver-based computing alternative to Citrix. Thinworx is not through Unis Lumin, but a seperate company called Genuit.

Mowat joined Microsoft, Cisco, HP, IBM, VMware, NEC andother sponsors at the TechSelect vendor fair. Mowat had his owntabletop display and got to engage TechSelect members on Thinworx. Thisenabled Mowat to concentrate on big picture matters for TechSelectwhile at the conference and also get to introducing a cool concept toit membership.

This was all in the spirit of improving the common good of thegroup. With Thinworx TechSelect members now have an alternative toCitrix that is cheaper and can still compliment Microsoft TerminalServices.

Three quick hits before I go. John Abate, friend of CDN an long time channel executive at Infinity and Communications Connection Canada is now with FusionOne as its vice president of technology services.

ONX’s Sheldon Pollack and PhilDe Leonhave acquired all of the common shared of Momentum Advanced SolutionsInc. that are currently not owned by them for 22 cents per share. It isexpected that Momentum will be de-listed from the TSX.

David Donatelli is stuck in the middle of a huge storage cat fight between HP and EMC. The former EMC vicepresident was about to take a new opportunity at HP, when his formercompany filed a lawsuit that is preventing him from working at the PaloAlto, Calif.-based company. The lawsuit is to enforce a non-competitionagreement.
