Sun cutting up to 6,000 jobs

Sun Microsystems is feeling the burn, too: the company announced on Friday that it will lay off between 5,000 and 6,000 employees over the next year.

The move will net the company $700- to $800-million per year. The software business and divisions are being reorganized as well in an effort to cut costs. (Losses were posted in two out of the past three quarters.)
