San Francisco-based Six Apart announced an upgrade to its free, open source blogging software Movable Type and released a new product called Movable Type Pro.
MovableType 4.2 features simplified default templates, built-in TypePadAntispam software, improved searching, threaded commenting andincreased performance. Common tasks are “up to 100 times faster” thanprevious versions of the software, states the release.
MovableType Pro adds social networking features to Movable Type’s bloggingtools and content management system. The Pro version allows users tobuild an online community for their readers via forums, postings andmember profiles.
Businesses can purchase 5-author($395.95 USD) and 20-author ($1499.95 USD) licenses. Non-profitinstitutions qualify for discounted rates. Movable Type Pro isavailable to individual bloggers and K-12 schools for free.
Six Apart also offers Movable Type Enterprise, which is basically Movable Type Pro with added support for Oracle and SQL Server databases and LDAP.
