Globalive Wireless Management Corp., which bought licences a year ago in the Advanced Wireless Spectrum auction, announced Monday Nokia Siemens Networks will build its network.
The company, which plans to offer services starting next year, saidit will buy Nokia Siemens Networks’ Flexi Multimode base stations, plusradio network controllers and operational support systems.
The value of the contract was not announced.
The announcement comes a month after Nokia Siemens Networks offeredto buy Nortel Networks Corp.’s carrier wireless unit for US$650 million.
Globalive is indirectly owned by an Egyptian firm, Orascom TelecomHolding, which holds 20 per cent of the voting shares. Along with DAVEWireless and Public Mobile, Globalive is one of the new entrants thatplans to take on Rogers, Bell and Telus in the cellular service arena.
