Google cuts contractors amid declining online spending?

A recent report in the Wall Street Journal Web site reported thatGoogle has plans to reduce the number of contractors it hires. While itdoesn’t plan to cut its permanent workforce, which totals 20,213employees, some of its approximately 10,000 contractors will get cutalthough the company hasn’t specified exactly how many.

The current economy has likely something to do with Google’s plan tocut contractors given that U.S. firm comScore this week reported onlinespending in the U.S. has declined four per cent from last year. Onlinespending impacts Google given its advertising business.

That said, cutting contractors might also have to do with the factthat Google announced this month it will shut down Lively, its virtualworld.
