Jim Balsillie, co-chief executive officer of Research in Motion Ltd., has announced more details of his plans to bring a National Hockey League team to Hamilton, Ont. On Friday he announced a plan to spend $150 million on Copps Coliseum, to include a new rink surface, ice plant, climate control, lobby and main concourse. The proposal also calls for 50 mid-level private suites and 20 “bunker suites”, plus new club locker rooms. Balsillie has agreed to buy the Phoenix Coyotes for US$212 million on condition the team be moved to Canada. However the NHL opposes the move and the team is operating under bankruptcy protection.
