webdoxs powers up its subscriber base

e-route inc. announced in July that webdoxs, a Canadian electronic document presentment (EDP) service which allows consumers to receive and pay bills online at their financial institutions’ Web sites, has reached a subscriber base of 230,000 users and has signed service agreements with Toronto Hydro Electric-System Limited, Hydro Ottawa and Oshawa PUC Networks Inc. The announcement adds to the growing list of hydro companies including Enersource Hydro Mississauga, Welland Hydro-Electric System Corp., Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc., Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc, and Milton Hydro that are offering the webdoxs service to their customers.

e-route inc. is an Internet technology services company owned and financed by CIBC, Mouvement des caisses Desjardins, National Bank of Canada, Royal Bank of Canada, Scotiabank and TD Canada Trust. The company was created to provide a nation-wide, interoperable technology solution for online document presentment linking Canada’s financial institutions, its online banking customers, and document presenting partner organizations.

The webdoxs service is the only service that is linked to direct bill payment with Canada’s major financial institutions, giving consumers the ability to make payments directly from their bank account and view an updated account balance immediately.

e-route inc. notes that participating billers offering the webdoxs service represent one third of all bills that are sent to Canadian households. These billers include Bell Canada, Bell Mobility, Cambrian College, CIBC VISA, Chevron Canada Ltd, City of Leduc, Enersource Hydro Mississauga, Maritime Electric, National Bank MasterCard, Region of Peel Water and Sewer, Royal Bank VISA, St. John Energy, ScotiaBank VISA, Scotia Line, Welland Hydro-Electric System Corp., Videotron and TD VISA.

The company in July also announced the appointment of Jim Sallas, former TD Canada Trust executive, as president and COO.

“There is no doubt that electronic bill presentment will revolutionize the way organizations send and customers receive bills as well as the way they exchange information,” Sallas is quoted in the release. “We believe that the webdoxs service will continue to grow through the breadth of our participating billers and the easy access to our service through the online banking web sites of financial institutions.”
