OpenText buys Hightail

OpenText Corp. has purchased Hightail Inc., a U.S company that specializes in cloud-based file sharing, the Waterloo software firm announced this morning.

Hightail, formerly known as YouSendIt, has approximately 5.5 million customers globally, many of whom work in the enterprise field.

OpenText says the acquisition expands their content collaboration market through Hightail’s existing user base.

“I am excited about expanding Hightail capabilities as well as integrating Hightail into OpenText Content Suite, Documentum, Core, and Media Management,” said Mark Barrenechea, OpenText Vice chairman, CEO and CTO.

In November, OpenText announced the availability of OpenText Release 16 Enhancement Pack 3 (EP3), which delivered upgraded analytics; better AI, Internet of Things (IoT), and information security capabilities. They will also be offered through the company’s Magellan platform, released at OpenText’s Enterprise World in Toronto July 11.

OpenText made several big moves in 2017. In January, it purchased Dell EMC’s enterprise content division and the Documentum brand for $1.62 billion USD in cash and stock. The deal was first announced Sept. 12, 2016, and also included the  InfoArchive and LEAP product families, which brought the company’s total employee base to more than 10,000.  It also bought Covisint, a US-based information technology company, for $103 million USD in July 2017, and Guidance Software, a forensic security company, for $222 million in September 2017.
