Microsoft Corp. has named Emilio Umeoka as its new vice president for the Asia-Pacific region, the company said Friday.
Umeoka, who will take on his new role in Singapore on Aug. 28, is currently the general manager of Microsoft Brazil. He will replace Eduardo Rosini, who will move to Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington to take a new job as corporate vice president of small and midmarket solutions and partners.
Microsoft cited Umeoka’s “outstanding results” in Brazil as the reason for his promotion, calling Microsoft Brazil one of its fastest growing subsidiaries in the world. The company expects his experience and understanding of emerging markets to help in the Asia-Pacific region.
Under Umeoka’s stewardship, Microsoft Brazil launched 20 Microsoft Innovation Centers in partnership with the government, and made Brazil one of the first subsidiaries to offer users more affordable computing options, such as Microsoft’s Windows Starter Edition OS, and the pay-as-you-go PCs.
He formerly worked for Compaq Computer Corp. and started his own software house, Wild West, as a corporate reseller in Latin America in 1991.
A native of Brazil, Umeoka graduated with a degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M in 1985. He is married and has two children.
