Just Say Yes to E-Commerce

Distributed computing initiatives that promise in some way to facilitate electronic commerce are getting nods from upper management, according to a survey completed by Cutter Consortium.

Approximately 77 per cent of 138 survey respondents believed that there is some overlap between distributed enterprise systems and the Internet or intranets. The Internet, which can facilitate distributed computing by providing a universal network, is a concept that senior business managers respond to as the first step toward e-commerce.

And that reaction is helping to bring IT to the forefront as a business driver, Cutter said.
