IBM Canada to help engineers

IBM Canada Ltd. and ENGINEERING.com, developer and owner of the ENGINEERING.com business and Internet-based software, announced Wednesday they have reached an agreement for IBM to provide the technology infrastructure needed to service an e-commerce strategy focused on the global engineering community.

IBM Global Services is implementing IBM’s WebSphere Commerce Suite software and Managed e-business Services, enabling ENGINEERING.com’s Internet site to provide information, links, tools and an e-marketplace for engineers.

In a statement released Wednesday Frank Baldesarra, ENGINEERING.com president and CEO said that one of the most important business objectives for the organization was to offer a user-friendly site that delivers content to engineers and technicians.

Nicholas M. Donofrio, IBM’s senior vice-president for technology and manufacturing, said that what’s intriguing about ENGINEERING.com is that a key part of its plan is to reach out to aspiring engineers, and to encourage more women and minorities to join the profession.

ENGINEERING.com is located in Woodbridge, Ont., and can be reached at http://www.engineering.com.
