Edge switch for harsh conditions

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Inc.of Pullman, Wash., has announced the availability of a new Ethernet edge switch and media converter for extreme environments. The SEL-2725 is an unmanaged five-port Ethernat switch, with four wired ports and a single fibre optic port. According to the company, the switch can withstand “vibration, electrical surges, electrostatic discharge, fast transients and extreme temperatures.” The switch meets IEEE 1613 Class 2 standards for networking devices, the company says. The switch is designed for use in electrical substations, generating plants, industrial plants and other mission-critical sites, the company says. The SEL-2725 costs $450.
