Cognos supports new DB2 software

Business intelligence (BI) developer Cognos Inc. announced Wednesday that it will continue to lend support to IBM Corp.’s DB2 line, including the recently released DB2 Information Integration software.

The new DB2 software allows businesses to access and integrate data regardless of where the information sits such as e-mail, Web services and SQL server databases, in real-time.

With the Cognos DB2 Universal Database solution, which includes the Cognos Enterprise BI Series 7 suite, users are able to have seamless views of disparate data, the Ottawa-based company said. Users can also query across databases, conduct scorecarding or tracking, visualization as well as event detection.

Through DB2 Information Integrator software, Cognos is also able to support non-related data sources such as simple object access protocol (SOAP) Web services and XML files.

In addition, the company announced a scorecarding extension to its Enterprise Planning Series, providing corporate decision-makers with a view of performance against plan. The Enterprise Planning solution brings together planning, budgeting, forecasting, consolidations, reporting as well as financial analytics in order to eliminate inconsistencies in the scoreboarding process.

According to Cognos, the company has integrated the former Adaytum Inc. enterprise planning solution into its Enterprise Planning series in order to address three performance management cycle issues: enterprise planning; enterprise scorecarding; and enterprise BI. Combined with the Cognos Metrics Manager and Enterprise BI 7 Series, the Enterprise Planning solution sets corporate goals and forecasts, monitors performance through scorecarding and offers detailed performance management reporting. Cognos bought Minneapolis, Minn.-based Adaytum late last year.
