The traditional objective of startup businesses has been to start small and grow big — perhaps big enough to one day challenge the heavyweight market players. Increasingly, however, those large players are turning that paradigm upside-down by looking to infuse their already successful operations with more small-business feistiness and an increased willingness to take risks.
