2016 CIO of the Year – Public Sector – Peter Bak

PUBLIC SECTOR WINNER: PETER BAK

Peter Bak, Ph.D., CMC, won the 2016 CIO of the Year award (Public Sector) for his work as a key member of the team that developed the Humber River Hospital, said to be the first “digital hospital” in North America. The hospital opened its doors in October 2015.

Bak is the CIO at Humber River Hospital, responsible for the implementation of the digital vision and ongoing operations of that vision. Bak is a Certified Management Consultant with decades of experience in healthcare technology product development and marketing, healthcare ICAT (information, communication and automation technology) system/solution architecture design, healthcare IT, and IT project management. Bak has been an excellent friend of ITWC presenting at events and participating in the annual Canadian CIO Summit. He has been an Assistant Professor at McMaster University (Faculty of Health) since 2009, and served as a member of the Board of Directors for Amref Health Africa from 2015 to 2017.
