India outsourcing firms report surge in hiring In quarterly reports released this week, three big India-based offshore outsourcing companies detailed sharp increases in employee head count, clear evidence of growing demand for offshore services. Analysts say this demand is increasing wages in India by double digits and raising the potential of rate increases for U.S. customers. For now, at least, competition in India is keeping billing rates stable. But analysts say that won't continue indefinitely as competition for experienced employees increases.

This joint interest has given rise to vendors and enterprises exploring the convergence of these two capabilities. Although overlaps in technologies, requirements, and processes exist, significant differences remain, which will impede full convergence indefinitely.

Your CEO still doesn't get IT More than two-thirds of CIOs say that their CEOs view IT as a cost of doing business — and not, unfortunately, as a business enabler. That's according to a survey of more than 700 CIOs by Meta Group Inc. Findings from CIO's "State of the CIO 2003" survey showed similar numbers: A whopping 84 per cent of 539 respondents said IT was budgeted as a cost centre, while only 16 per cent said IT was budgeted as an investment centre that creates new business capabilities
