Red Hat signs up messaging server Open-Xchange, formerly Netline Internet Service, has released its well regarded open-source collaboration server for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), as part of the company's program of broadening its cross-platform support. Open-Xchange is the main commercial, open-source alternative to proprietary systems such as Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino and Novell GroupWise.

Red Hat patches critical hole Red Hat is warning enterprise Linux users to update their installations of XFree86 to fix a number of serious security bugs, some of which could allow attackers to take over a system. Affected operating systems include Enterprise Linux AS 3, Enterprise Linux ES 3 and Enterprise Linux WS 3, Red Hat said in an advisory.

Novell responds to SCO lawsuit, hypes new products at LinuxWorld After being slapped with a lawsuit for "slander of title" by the SCO Group Inc. on Tuesday, Novell Inc.'s CEO Jack Messman on Wednesday declared the company would defend itself against the suit and win, citing the suit as evidence that SCO is losing the war it launched against Linux when it filed suit against IBM for allegedly infringing upon its Unix patent.
