Cloud Disaster Recovery

Power outages, poor weather conditions, lost connections, and natural disasters care often unavoidable and can cripple a company’s operations. Recognizing the value of their information, many Canadian companies are turning to cloud-based disaster recovery services to ensure their data is safe and backed up regardless of what may occur.

What is cloud disaster recovery?

Cloud disaster recovery, commonly called cloud DR, is a data recovery plan in which organizations keep copies of data and information on cloud-based servers, rather than relying solely on physical storage or off-site facilities.

With cloud storage, rather than using a specific product or device, critical data is stored online in a protected and secure location not impacted by an organization’s physical servers. Therefore, if a company were to lose all the data on their servers, it would still be available through over cloud.

The benefits of cloud disaster recovery

While some companies are still skeptical about cloud use due to perceived security and privacy concerns, cloud disaster recovery continues to become a popular option due to many benefits, such as:

  • Cost: disaster recovery via cloud is cost effective when compared to other storage and recovery methods.
  • Payment options: Many cloud service providers also offer pay-as-you-go pricing models that is very attractive to many companies.
  • Minimal investment: Companies can avoid a large upfront capital investment in equipment and can add or subtract specific features as required. Minimal management: Companies can dedicated fewer IT resources to the management of their cloud disaster recovery servers, which is covered by the cloud provider.
  • Scalability: Cloud disaster recovery can be scaled to fit the needs of any size company

Cloud disaster recovery features and requirements

Companies should expect from a cloud disaster recovery service provider:

  • Full recovery of your company’s Website, system, disk and files through an online portal accessed if a disaster occurs.
  • Quick and efficient data recovery.
  • A data validation method to occasionally check to make sure their data is backed up accurately and on a regular basis.
  • A plan outlining the company’s specific data recovery plan.
  • The optimization of your company’s Wide Area Network and the cloud portal to ensure that data can be mobilized and transferred at reduced bandwidth and storage capacity.

In addition to hiring a cloud DR service provider, organizations should make sure they have:

  • The network capacity and bandwidth capabilities to redirect traffic in light of a disaster or system crash.
  • A recovery plan that outlines the specific details and steps required to properly restore your data.
