Gone are the days of grey file cabinets and remote storage facilities. Canadian companies and individuals are now relying less and less on physical or paper copies of important files and documents. They take up space, cost money to store, and can be time consuming to find.

With the help of cloud based technologies, people now have a second, more efficient option when it comes to storage. Files and documents, regardless of size or type, can be stored digitally. And, since the transition to digital has increasingly become easier, digital file storage has quickly become one of the most popular ways for people to have their documents stored.

Amazon Cloud

Amazon Cloud

Large online companies such as Amazon have caught onto this trend and now offer cloud-based services to their customers. For Amazon, they offer a service called Cloud Drive.

Amazon Cloud Drive

This cloud-based service offered by Amazon is a form of personal hard drive that can accessed through their online account. Cloud Drive is available for free and comes with 5 gigabytes of online storage space that can be used for any type of files.

Customers have access to this account at any time and can use it in any way they like and will not be charged for its use. They can use it to store music, personal documents, or use it to back up important files that they want second copies of. Users have the ability to upload and download files, arrange them in custom ways, create custom files and folders, and search for a file by entering a file name or term in the search box.

Amazon Cloud Player

Cloud Drive is best used in conjunction with Amazon Cloud Player, which is a browser-based application. When downloaded from the Amazon website, Cloud Player can be used to purchase, download, and stream music from the following devices:
  • PC or Mac
  • iPad
  • Android Device

Here is what you can do with Cloud Player:

  • Save all MP3s to your Cloud Drive. This includes purchases from Amazon or files uploaded from your computer
  • Click on the Amazon Cloud Player to either listen to music or purchase it from Amazon
  • Use Cloud Player to search for music and create playlists
  •  Upload music from your music library on your computer
  • Customers also have the option of downloading the Amazon MP3 app and listen to their music from their Android mobile device

Amazon Cloud Drive Features

Cloud Drive offers users a number of features that makes managing files online quick and easy:
  • Secure access: Users can access their account securely from any computer that is connected to the internet. Therefore, users will have access to everything that is uploaded to their account.
  • A way to backup files: Files that are uploaded are protected if your computer crashes, gets a virus or is damaged or stolen.
  • Free storage of Amazon MP3s: When users purchase MP3s from Amazon they can save their purchase for free. And, the storage space does not count against your 5 GB of storage that comes with the account.
  • Storage flexibility: Users have the option to upgrade their account and increase their storage space. Amazon currently offers up 1000 GB of storage space.

How Amazon Cloud Drive works

Here are the steps that are required to use Cloud Drive:
  • Upload selected files from your computer to Cloud Drive. Files can be music, videos, photos, and documents.
  • Once uploaded, the files are stored securely.
  • Access uploaded files through your Amazon account. Users can access their files from anywhere over the internet.
