Windows 8 will ship in October
On Monday, Microsoft finally broke the news: Windows 8 will be launched commercially in October 2012. The much-anticipated operating system is intended to work seamlessly across PCs, tablets and smartphones alike. But Windows 8 will have a split personality: the desktop version will be available as a software upgrade, while Windows RT, intended for ARM-based tablets and smartphones, will come embedded. Microsoft called Windows 8 “the biggest deal for our company in 17 years.”
