Unified presence offers messaging the modern way

In the enterprise world, implementing IP communications and a unified messaging (UM) presence isn’t a matter of “if” but “when,” according to one industry observer. Forrester ana­lyst Brownlee Thomas made the statement at a Cisco Unified Communications seminar in Toronto last month.

For enterprises looking to make the leap into IP, Thomas offers some bits of advice. “First, identify areas of communication bottleneck — get a handle on current network management costs.” It would also be useful to define before and after scenarios for converged IP communications applications, Thomas said.
