Ad-free help desk software aimed at SMBs, schools and small government offices

Web Help Desk of Fremont, Calif., has launched a free edition of its help desk software aimed at small businesses, primary and secondary schools and small government organizations.

The company says there’s no trial period or expiration date, and it’s ad-free.

The cross-platform server-side software is available in Linux, Mac OS X and Windows Server flavours. Customers seeking help access the system through any Web browser.

A Web portal for customer support allows users to open trouble tickets and track their progress. The portal also features self-help and suggestions from a database of solutions. Articles from the knowledge base can also be hidden from end-user customers and visible only to support staff.

E-mail can be automatically converted into trouble tickets. Support staff can also add notes to the file by e-mail or through the Web application.

The application can generate a variety of graphical reports, which can be exported to spreadsheets and automatically delivered via e-mail. Service level agreements can trigger automatic e-mail alerts to staff.

The application uses existing Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) or Active Directory for log-in and authentication.

The software can be downloaded from www.webhelpdesk.com/free-help-desk-software.html.
