Oracle touts Fusion apps as Salesforce killer

CEO Larry Ellison says his company's hardware and software are more modern and versatile for cloud environments

After taking shots at Amazon and SAP over cloud and analytics, Ellison turned his guns on CRM giant Salesforce.com

Ellison spoke of his company's technological robustness compared to Salesforce.com, according to this ComputerWorld article, saying that "Oracle has more SaaS applications than any other vendor...everything you need, top to bottom, to run your enterprise in the cloud."

He also emphasized the flexibility of Oracle Fusion applications, which he said can be shifted from one cloud environment to another, something that Salesforce.com doesn't support. But true to form as a cloud skeptic, he told the audience not to expect cloud to deliver near-complete freedom from technology, as some vendors have suggested. But Oracle, he said, had the underlying technology to make it as painless as possible.

Oracle has also been investing in social media analytics technology recently, and Ellison gave a demonstration of performing "sentiment analysis" on billions of tweets.
