The vendor-neutral Transaction Processing Performance Council has now extended its specifications to VMs

A non-profit organization that offers benchmarks for transactional processsing has introduced a new specification for databases running on virtual machines.

The Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC) says the new benchmark will be the first of its kind in the industry and will be particularly useful to enterprises running legacy databases in virtual environments, according to this NetworkWorld article.  Known as TPC-VMS (Virtual Measurement of Single-system), it has so far been adopted by Red Hat Inc., which will use it to measure the performance of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and publish the results.
