What makes an IT executive a leader?

It’s a question that’s been asked for decades, but in the 21st century with IT departments in a state of upheaval it’s more important than ever.

ComputerWorld U.S. to a look at senior IT men and women in the United States who are one step below CIO and came up with five people under 50 who it thinks bear watching.

As writer Tracy Mayor puts it, “Though their titles, duties and industries vary widely, these rising stars all see themselves as facilitators who can fix business problems with tech solutions.
 
Business alignment disasterous for IT
 
One rarely uses the words “data centre.” Another sees her role as a strategic business consultant. A third says he always asks, “Why are we doing this?”

A constant that runs almost through all of these min-biographies is how the delivery of cloud-based services has overturned the notion of traditional IT departments.

It’s an interesting read.
