CES: SAP's CIO talks on consumerization of IT

iPhones and Android phones flooding the workplace but BlackBerry faithfuls holding on to their handsets says Oliver Busmann

Consumerization of technology has transformed the workplace and his role, according to Oliver Bussman, CIO at SAP AG

Traditionally IT support departments were seen as drop-off counter, Bussman who was at the International Consumer Electronics Show this week said. Today, the bring-your-own-device trend has transformed his domain into a department that has 15 solution centres which support Apple, Android, RIM and Windows 8 devices.

While SAP workers like the latest iPhones and Samsung Galaxy handsets, of the companies 50,000 mobile users, 16,000 still prefer to use BlackBerry phones, he said.

But consumer influence at SAP goes beyond mobile devices. One of the favourite applications of SAP workers is SAP Box, the company’s variation on the popular cloud-based file sharing service Dropbox.
