The City of Cambridge, Ont., truly is a smart city.

After seeing a widening gap in the city's infrastructure and ability to maintain services, it implemented a sophisticated work and asset management system. The city has become more proactive in efforts to maintain water, sewer and transportation infrastructure.

It deployed a geographical information system (GIS) database that gives proper inventory of its 250,000 assets ranging from roads and sidewalks to sewer and water pipes.
