Stampede Technologies has come up with single sided and bidirectional application acceleration and WAN optimization solutions for slow satellite links. The Dayton, Ohio company said its new FX series servers for satellite service providers is a single-sided solution can provide as much as a 30 per cent reduction in downstream bandwidth. The 1U-sized servers distributes TCP/HTTP workloads across multiple SAAS appliances and automatically compresses data sent to standard browsers. There are two models, starting at US$40,000. The FX-2000 is powered by an Intel 2.5Ghz E5200 dual core processor, while the FX-4000 has an Intel 2.6 Ghz quad core X3350 CPU.
The bi-directional solution adds Stampedes Acceleration on Demand client software, which the company says can turn any Windows or Linux PC into a shared acceleration server. The software comes in two flavours: Standard, priced at US$39.95 a seat, which has HTTP/HTTPS engines, and Advanced, at US$50 a seat, which does Layer 5 acceleration for applciations that go through WinSock.
