SolarWinds has released a free tool for managing Cisco Systems IP Service Level Agreement technology. The tool, available now via download, is said to allow network engineers to better understand device-to-device and remote site performance. This “de-centralized” view of network performance facilitates more precise identification of traffic trouble spots and accelerates response time, SolarWinds said in a news release.
Cisco IP SLA allows users to analyze specific transport metrics from an IP SLA-capable device to another Cisco router or other IP device. Most engineers use the command line interface to both configure and read results. SolarWinds IP SLA Monitor tool gives users a graphical interface to more easily configure router operations and monitor statistics in real-time.
While IP SLA Monitor offers real- real-time statistics one network path at a time, SolarWinds says integration with its Orion Network Performance Monitor (NPM) enables users to harness more powerful network management capabilities. The new free tool will allow users to automatically create a Universal Device Poller (UnDP) that can be imported into Orion NPM to enable IP SLA trend analysis, reporting, and even the creation of custom alerts based on IP SLA statistics. Free 30-day trials of Orion NPM are available for download on the SolarWinds’ Website.
