Sorry Canada - No Skype For You! Canadian IPhone and Blackberry users left out..

With the video reviews of Skype on the IPhone appearing fast and furious, I just got wind on Engadget that Skype is now available for download on ITunes for free as of today (31st).  Unfortunately us Canadians appear to be getting the Telelcomm Shaft....as we have grown all too accustomed too.  Are you fuming?  I am...

Skype On IPhone - Not In Canada

CBC has the best details here and once again, the Internet Savvy, highly Broadband penetrated, easy going Canadians are getting left in the dark.  I blogged about this last week and thought (foolishly) that we were past "this nonsense".

With respect to the IPhone the application is available in every country in which the iPhone is on sale and in which Apple has an iTunes Store — except for, you guessed it....Canada!!!

On the BlackBerry, we will need to wait until May, but again, as with the IPhone, even though the application will be available for download by everyone, only select countries will be able to use SkypeOut or Sype-To-Stype services to make outgoing calls - this means thumbs up to the U.S and U.K but NOT CANADA.

So what is this all about?  It's apparently some CRTC restriction...but when Canada ranks 3rd best country for business and one of the places best posed (apparently) to benefit from economic recovery...why do we continue to be left out in the cold in the telecomm space....it's like we're an afterthought and the government isn't doing anything to change that...Are you as upset as I am? Weigh in on this one....I'm going to go to bed now...but not sure I'll be able to get to sleep right away.....
