Vlingo updates voice controlled BlackBerry app


Vlingo Corp. has launched the newest incarnation of its voice-enabled BlackBerry application.

 

With vlingo 2.0, RIM smartphone users can use voice control to make updates to their Facebook and Twitter statuses, launch popular applications like Google Maps, and access over a dozen built-in BlackBerry applications. These updates

 

“Our users have spoken more than three million times to our application, including over one million times to compose text messages with the power of their voices,” Dave Grannan, CEO at Cambridge, Mass.-based vlingo, said in a release. “This is validation of our unique approach to voice recognition, which hinges on making mobile data and applications easier to find and use. It provides clear evidence of the growing need to simplify the mobile phone user experience.”

 

Other updates to vlingo include full message read-back of spoken text messages and e-mails, as well as, full SureType support.

 

The initial version of vlingo was launched for BlackBerry smartphones in June. It featured the ability to send and reply to e-mails and text messages, search the Web and open applications via voice command.
