How will you stack up in 2012?

The year is quickly coming to an end, but there’s still time to participate in ComputerWorld Canada’s 2012 IT Job Market and Salary Survey.
The survey results will show which IT skills are in demand now, along with how salaries differ across Canada’s provinces and territories. The results also improve the Salary Calculator, which you can use to see how your compensation stacks up against others in the industry.
Spend a few minutes taking the survey and you’ll be entered in a draw to win an iPad 2. You’ll alsobe able todownload the results when they’re ready.
I’m sure we all love talking about money (and making it), but what I find most interesting from this survey is how people actually feel about their jobs. Last year’s results suggested that a majority of respondents in Canada felt secure in their jobs.
That feeling of security likely feeds into another element of the survey I find important: “job satisfaction.” More than half of last year’s respondents said they were satisfied or very satisfied with their job (see graphic). Satisfaction and enjoyment are tough to measure or compare the same way as salaries, but it’s still an important thing to ask about.
Obviously, being well-paid adds to that satisfaction, but without people who actually like going to work, I can’t see Canada’s productivity increasing much. I look forward to seeing how many IT workers aresatisfied and confident in their careers going into 2012.
