HP Inc. is advising CIOs to start thinking about virtualization technology as an important business tool rather than just a technology enabler.
A recent global study conducted by the Palo Alto, Calif.-based tech giant has found that while 86 per cent of technology decision makers have implemented some form of virtualization capabilities, many of them have not come close to fully virtualizing their IT infrastructure. According to HP, the vast majority of respondents expect to have just 25 of their technology environments virtualized by 2010.
“Virtualization is a powerful step in transforming IT,” Ann Livermore, executive-vice president of technology solutions group at HP, said. “To do it right means successfully managing and automating mixed physical and virtual environments.”
While the majority of those surveyed anticipate eventually reaching 75 per cent virtualization of their total environments, HP said, only one-third of these technology implementers recognize virtualization as a valuable business tool.
