ZigBee energy system now in beta

Tendril Inc. is beta testing a product that lets energy utilities gather and store information from customers.

Energy Management System (EMS) includes a wireless network operating system, in-home displays, “smart” outlets and a gateway that connects IP networks to those operating on the ZigBee protocol, which is used for wireless control networks.

EMS software includes network monitoring and diagnostic tools, a consumer energy management portal, a back-office integration portal and the ZigBee Smart Energy Profile.

Boulder, Colo.-based based Tendril says EMS supports multiple wide-area networking technologies, fraud detection, consumption benchmarking and the ability to connect with other systems, such as meter backhaul networks.

It can scale to support millions of networks from a single network operations centre, Tendril claims. It can work with back office systems such as billing, load monitoring and security.
