UPDATE: CA releases new portal, BI offerings

As part of its real-time “Information in Action” initiative, Computer Associates International Inc. (CA) has announced several new CleverPath offerings, including the latest version of its enterprise portal solution.

In a Webcast Tuesday, CA CleverPath Senior Vice-President Gary Starkey said the Islandia, N.Y.-based company’s “Information in Action” blueprint revolves around developing a real-time, component-based environment for the enterprise. The architecture combines shared common services and specialty services to address enterprise needs including collaboration, predictive analysis and online analytical processing, he added.

The new portal and business intelligence (BI) solutions include CleverPath Portal 4.5, CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert 9.5, CleverPath Collaboration Option, CleverPath Advanced Access Control Option and CleverPath Dashboard Option.

Ricardo Antuna, CA vice-president of marketing said the real-time strategy underlines the need for organizations to move beyond point solutions for information delivery systems – such as standalone portal or content management solutions – to a more integrated infrastructure that allows companies to better control how they access information.

Centralized access to data is key, Antuna added – solutions such as the new portal solution are designed to work within a “plug-in” type framework that incorporates XML and Web APIs and are indicative of the new initiative. The solutions will be sold on a tiered structure, Antuna said. For example, pricing for CleverPath Portal 4.5 starts at US$22,000.

Portals are maturing to offer a broader range of functionality, according to Gartner’s Gene Phifer. The Stamford, Conn.-based research director noted the portal market is evolving towards the “Smart Enterprise Suite” – solutions that offer application integration, business intelligence (BI), collaboration and security.
