Hewlett-Packard Co. announced on Wednesday that it has formed an alliance with e-Security Inc. to combine the systems management strength of HP OpenView software with the incident response and threat management capability of e-Security’s e-Sentinel security product to protect critical business systems.
Through the integrated technologies, customers will be able utilize services management intelligence to discern how to spot and treat possible threats that arise within IT infrastructure, be they security or network operation-centric, according to Nicola Sanna, president and CEO of Rockledge, Fla.-based e-Security.
The announcement was made at the HP Software Forum in Seattle.
e-Sentinel performs threat management through the collection and correlation of security events across an infrastructure and other IT assets. The product generates alerts, reports, and offers performance metrics and event historical analysis.
Network management vendors in greater numbers are latching on to the idea of security’s impact on infrastructure management and viability of SLAs (service-level agreements), said Pete Lindstrom, senior analyst of security strategies at Framingham, Mass.-based Hurwitz Group Inc.
“[The alliance] is part of this ongoing connection between things like configuration management and threats, whether a threat from a particular hacker or against the availability of a device, certainly there’s a lot of linkage,” said Lindstrom. “This is a way to off-load some first echelon support and give [end-users] that level of comfort that there will be someone watching the monitor at the right time.”
Micromuse Inc. and Aprisma Management Technologies Inc. are examples of other management vendors embarking down similar paths to tie their technology closer into security environments and products.
Palo Alto, Calif.-based HP will welcome e-Security as a certified security partner in its portfolio partner program as part of the deal, noted Sanna.
