Security vendors form AMTSO

An industry association specializing in anti-malware was formed this week by 24 vendors during a meeting in Bilbao, Spain.

The Anti-Malware Testing Standards Organization (AMTSO), which plans to develop guidelines and standards, is comprised of IBM Corp, Microsoft Corp. and several vendors specializing in security, including Sophos, F-Secure, Trend Micro, McAfee and Kaspersky Lab.

In a statement issued this week, AMTSO said it was formed due to concern over discrepancies between what anti-malware technologies do and the criteria used to evaluate them. AMTSO plans to promote awareness of issued related to testing anti-malware, and provide resources to aid standards-based testing methodologies.

This week’s meeting was hosted by Panda Security.
